Welcome to the NSW South Coast village of Tomerong. The name ‘Tomerong’ is derived from the local aboriginal word for ‘tall trees’ and is just 20km from Nowra and less than 10 minutes from the towns of Huskisson and Vincentia on the picturesque Jervis Bay (renowned for its pristine beaches, scuba-diving and dolphin and whale-spotting). Tomerong is also very close to the St Georges Basin area which is a prized destination for recreational fishers.
Tomerong was originally a major stopover point on the trip between Sydney and Melbourne and was a major tree-felling area with its products being shipped to Sydney from the (then) port of Jervis Bay. More detailed information of the history of this area is available on http://home.exetel.com.au/tomerong/history2/.
With a population of around 500 people, Tomerong combines ‘village life’ with ready access to beaches, fishing, boating, bush-walking, and other recreational activities. It has a very active community as indicated by the links to other pages of this site.
For more general information on the area:
The essence of village and community strength is self-reliance and community co-operation. The support for organisations in the village reflects our community’s strength. We hope the information provided here helps you discover more about the Tomerong community and surrounds.

ShUT Inc. Final General Meeting Monday 19 March commencing at 7.30 p.m
As you may be aware, the development application DA09/2077 to establish a waste facility at the Tomerong Quarry site was defeated in October 2010, much to the delight of ShUT members. The proponent has also failed to lodge an appeal and the time frame to do so has now elapsed. Therefore, it has been deemed that ShUT Campaign Incorporated now serves no useful purpose and it is intended to request deregistration of the association.
A general meeting will be held at Tomerong School of Arts hall on Monday 19 March commencing at 7.30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting will be to propose a special resolution to:
1. approve the cancellation of the registration and
2. propose the distribution of ShUT assets
All members and friends are most welcome to attend. We hope to see you there.

With just under nine months to go, planning for the Public School’s 150 Anniversary celebration is now stepping up a gear. The first meeting for 2012 will be held on Tuesday 21 February, in the school’s Connected Classroom/Computer Lab, commencing at 6 p.m. All are most welcome. If you know of others who may be interested in becoming involved with the planning of this event, please feel free to forward this email on.
To help commemorate the event the P&C are creating an art/recipe book and are inviting members of the community to submit their favourite recipes. If you would like to participate, please forward your recipes to tpsrecipes@hotmail.com or deliver a copy to the school office. Recipe forms can also be obtained from the Tomerong Post Office. You are able to email up to four items per person. Please include your recipe name, your family name, Ingredients, method/directions and other notes that may include where the recipe came from, favourite memories of the meal, variations, hints etc. Submissions are open until Wednesday 29 February, so time is now running out. If you would like to see you family recipe included in this publication – please act now.
As part of the celebrations the P&C are also selling commemorative pavers, so if you would like your name to go down in history, here’s your chance! You can purchase one, or more of these great pavers. They will become a permanent part of the school’s history, being laid in the schools grounds. You can choose either a standard paver with your name, or add your personal touch to a hand drawn paver. Paver order forms have been attached to this email. If you know of any others who would be interested in purchasing a paver or two, please forward the order form on.
